Dhaka University authorities have announced that residential halls will reopen on December 28, and regular in-person classes will resume on the same day.

The information was provided on Wednesday, December 3, through a press release stating that the decision was made at a meeting of the Deans’ Committee, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan.

According to the press release, the committee reviewed the technical inspection report of the residential halls prepared after the earthquake, as well as the recommendations of a sub-committee comprising BUET experts.

Considering the experts’ advice, the previously declared winter break will remain in place, with 23 and 24 December added as additional holidays. No examination will be held within the university during the break. However, ongoing online classes will continue until December 13, 2025, to make up for academic losses.

The release also stated that examinations will resume in the first week of January 2026. Departments will set new schedules in coordination with their respective deans and the office of the controller of examinations.

Repair and renovation works are ongoing to assess and fix the damage to residential halls caused by the earthquake. The university administration has sought cooperation from students and others concerned, as some halls may continue to undergo repairs after reopening.
