DU Fine Arts students boycott Pohela Boishakh celebration alleging nepotism
The students of 26th batch of Dhaka University's Faculty of Fine Arts have announced to boycott the Pohela Boisakh celebration, claiming that this year's programme is politically motivated.
The students made this announcement in a statement on Wednesday (March 26).
In the statement, the students said that this year's Boishakh celebration is politically motivated. "Due to the flattering attitude of those involved in this arrangement, we are not supporting the formalities and procession of the event organized by the teachers. Here, on behalf of the general students, we would like to make it clear that we, the general students of the Faculty of Fine Arts, have decided to boycott the organizing committee of this year's 'Boishakh 1432'.
They claimed that this year's programme is being hosted by those who are 'nepotistic' and serve political interests during the country's changing times.
The students complained that this decision to organize Boishakh academically was taken very abruptly with the involvement of a specific student-teacher group without any prior discussion with the students studying in the faculty or any student representatives. "Therefore, we, the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts, boycotted this year's Boishakh celebration."
