DU Professor Jamal Uddin detained while attempting to pay tribute at Dhanmondi-32

Police have detained Professor A K M Jamal Uddin of Dhaka University's Sociology Department along with four others while they were attempting to pay tribute at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital. Dhanmondi Thana police detained them from the Dhanmondi 32 area around 4:45 pm on Sunday. The names and identities of the other four initially detained individuals could not be immediately ascertained.

Earlier in the afternoon, Professor Jamal Uddin had posted on social media platform Facebook. Claiming himself to have been deprived during the Awami League government, he wrote, "I will go to the ruined residence of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 today at 4 pm to shed tears and pay tribute. I urge you all to join in large numbers."

No official statement was available from Dhanmondi Thana regarding the matter. However, Assistant Police Commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone under Ramna Division Shah Mostafa Tariquzzaman said, "I cannot make any comment on this matter." He claimed they were not detained.
