Dhaka University students have brought out a protest procession at midnight demanding the resignation of Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
The university students are starting the protest, alleging that the law and order situation across the country has deteriorated drastically.
Around 500 students started the protest procession from Halpara around 1:10am on Monday (February 24).
As of the latest news, they returned to Halpara again after circling the Raju statue. They gave ultimatum to the adviser to quit by 1pm on Monday and ended the protest at 2am.
Eyewitnesses said that students involved in the politics of Chhatra Dal, Shibir and Chhatra Union from various halls of Dhaka University were seen in the protest procession.
During the protest, various slogans were chanted, such as 'ek dui tin char Jahangir tui godi chhar (One two three four, Jahangir must quit', 'Maa bonder nirapotta de, na hole godi chhaira de (Give security to mothers and sisters, otherwise resign)'.
A student in the procession said: "We are demanding the resignation of the Home Affairs Adviser for his failure to control kidnappings and terrorist activities across the country.'
Sources said some students called for the protest by posting on the page of a Facebook group called Dhaka University Students' Union.
