Dhaka University Jagannath Hall students have brought out a procession protesting the rape of a woman by breaking open the door of her house in Cumilla's Muradnagar.

The students brought out the procession from the hall at 1:30am on Sunday and went to Raju Sculpture to take up their position.

The protesters chanted slogans like “We want the rapist to be hanged," "We are burning inside."

Taking part in the protest, Mass Communication and Journalism Department student Sourav Kanti Das said: “Today, we are helpless. The lives and property of ordinary people are not secured anywhere in the country. A BNP leader raped one of our sisters in Cumilla. We want punishment for this rapist. This time, there will be no more concessions.”

Nitta Kumar Pal, a student of the Department of Sociology, said: “In this country, followers of Hindu religion have been victims of oppression for a long time. Our temples are being destroyed, our gods are being insulted, but the criminals are not brought to justice. Today, a woman was raped—I don’t know, what will be the justice this time! If not, we will not sit quietly any longer.”

The protesters said that those involved in the rape incident must be arrested quickly and brought to justice. Otherwise, a movement will be launched on every campus and road in the country.

Meanwhile, Dhaka University students Mosaddek Ali and AB Zubair have announced a larger-scale protest demanding justice for the rape victim.
