DU students hold pretest rally over hate speech against Samina Lutfha
Students of Sociology Department held a protest rally over calling Associate Professor Samina Lutfha of Sociology Department of Dhaka University as ‘anti-Islamist’. Former students also joined the protest.
The students brought out a procession in front of the Faculty of Social Sciences and went in front of the Raju sculpture and held a protest rally on Monday afternoon.
Tasrifa Afroz, a former student of the Department of Sociology, said, “We have succeeded in overthrowing a fascist government, but the elements of fascism are still strong.” It’s been more than a month and a half yet we are witnessing various kinds of mob rampages. She said that teachers Samina Lutfha and Kamrul Hasan are being targeted and hatred is being spread against them.
Aruna Tahsin, another former student of the Department of Sociology said, Samina Lutfha and Kamrul Hasan have been working with education sector for a long time. A handful of teachers have come forward at a time when there was a discontent across the country, especially parents, about the National Education Policy-2021.
A few teachers of the department also took part at the protest rally along with the students of sociology department. But they did not give any statement.
