DU teacher Sudip in jail after remand
Associate Professor Sudip Chakraborty has been sent to jail after remand in the case of abetment to suicide of Munira Mahjabin Mimo, a student of the Department of Theater and Performance Studies of Dhaka University.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Pias rejected his bail application and ordered him to be sent to jail on Wednesday (May 6).
Sub-Inspector of the Prosecution Department Kamal Hossain confirmed the matter.
According to the case documents, the deceased Munira Mahjabin Mimo was a student of the 2019-20 academic year of the Department of Theater and Performance Studies of Dhaka University. She lived with her family in Badda area.
On the morning of April 26, she was found hanging from her room and taken to the hospital, where the doctor declared her dead. A note was also recovered from her room.
Later, the deceased student's father Mohammad Golam Mostafa filed a case against Associate Professor Sudip Chakraborty on charges of abetment to suicide.
Earlier, Sudip Chakraborty was arrested and sent to jail. Later, the court ordered him to be remanded for three days.
After the remand, the investigation officer of the case, Kazi Iqbal Hossain, presented him in court and requested to be remanded in jail. The accused's lawyer, Madhu Sudan Deb, applied for bail.
After the hearing, the court rejected the bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
