The Dhaka University administration has decided to send an official letter to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) requesting the temporary suspension of several Facebook pages ahead of the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections. The move aims to prevent cyberbullying and ensure a free and fair electoral environment.

The letter will urge BTRC to block access to several pages until September 10, citing concerns that certain platforms—such as "Dhaka University Security Forum," "Dhaka University Students’ Union-1," and "Dhaka University Students’ Union-2"—may spread misinformation and incite unrest on campus.

In a press release issued on Sunday, Farroque Mahmud, Deputy Director of the university’s Public Relations Office, confirmed the decision.

The Election Commission fears that continued activity on these platforms could undermine the electoral atmosphere. To maintain neutrality and prevent undue influence, the administration has also suspended the operations of a campus-based organization, Green Future Foundation, including its shuttle service, until September 10.

As part of its enforcement of the electoral code of conduct, the university has ordered the removal of all campaign-related banners and billboards. Candidates are strictly barred from engaging in service activities, distributing gifts, offering hospitality, or providing financial assistance. Any such actions will be treated as violations of the election code.

The university has also set clear guidelines for campaign activities. No campaigning will be allowed on campus or in halls until August 25. Campaigning will officially run from August 26 to 11:00 PM on September 7, under strict regulations.

During the campaign period, candidates are prohibited from engaging in social welfare activities, promoting themselves in religious places, or organizing religious events such as majlis or mahfils. Violations will be considered punishable offenses under Article 17 of the electoral code.
