Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan has called on students to cast their votes without fear in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.

He made the call in a video message through the university’s official Facebook page on Monday (September 8).

The VC described the polls as “historic,” noting that the event marks a significant moment in the university’s democratic journey.

“After many years, we are going through a historic election process. Both winners and losers will make important contributions in this process,” he said, adding that this year’s election carries special importance as several initiatives are being introduced for the first time in the university’s history.

Prof. Khan emphasized that DUCSU reflects the students’ long-cherished aspirations and is aligned with the values of the mass uprising. “Your event is the DUCSU election to highlight these important values. Come and vote without fear—we are waiting for you,” he urged.

The VC informed that preparations have been underway for 11 months, with final arrangements now complete.

Nearly 40,000 students are expected to vote across 810 booths. For the first time, the election will be held in eight integrated centers instead of separate halls.

He also assured that maximum transparency would be ensured, with a three-tier security system put in place for the polls.
