DUCSU VP candidate handed over to police for 'stabbing' roommate
DUCSU Vice President candidate Jalal Ahmed alias Jalamayi Jalal has been handed over to police for allegedly stabbing his roommate.
The incident took place at 1:15 am on Wednesday (August 27) in room no 462 of Hazi Muhammad Mohsin Hall. The injured Rabiul Haque is a student of the Political Science Department of the 2018-19 session.
When the injured Rabiul came out in self-defense, other students took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Rabiul Haque said: "Jalal came to the room around 12:30 am, turned on the light and started making noise. As a result, I woke up. Then I said that I have to go to the library in the morning and I have trouble sleeping due to the unnecessary noise. He got angry and called me an illegal resident and an outsider. When I protested, he stabbed me and injured me. Later, I somehow defended myself."
On the other hand, Jalal Ahmed, a resident of Muhsin Hall and a student of Department of Television and Film Studies, posted a picture of his injuries on his Facebook and wrote: "On the eve of sending a legal notice demanding the expulsion of illegal and outside students from all halls of Dhaka University, my roommate Rabiul Islam beat me up in room no 462 the hall at 12:30am tonight. He has been staying in the hall illegally for the past few months."
Immediately after this incident, students gathered in front of Jalal Ahmed’s room and asked him to come out, but he locked himself inside the room. Later, with the help of the proctor and the hall provost, he was handed over to Shahbagh Police.
The students are still (at the time of writing) agitating to expel and punish Jalal Ahmed over this incident. They are also demanding the resignation of the provost of the hall.
However, the proctor and provost have already assured the students that Jalal Ahmed will be expelled from the hall and the university.
