Dudu calls Barrister Fuad 'mad' over remarks on Dhaka University
BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has strongly criticised AB Party Secretary General Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad over his remarks on Dhaka University, saying, "What else can we call him but mad?"
Dudu made the comment while participating in a talk show on Friday, July 3.
He said students and teachers of Dhaka University played a crucial role in the Language Movement, the 1962 education movement, the 1969 mass uprising, the 1970 election and the 1971 Liberation War. The institution's contribution to the country's political history cannot be denied.
He added that all student organisations at Dhaka University have played glorious roles at various times. Most top leaders of almost all political parties in the country were students of this university. Differences of opinion are possible, but history cannot be denied.
On Jamaat-e-Islami, Dudu said everyone will do politics according to their own ideology as the opposition. However, he alleged that Jamaat is trying to implement different political programmes by bringing up the July movement instead of the government's various issues.
Earlier, Barrister Fuad had said in a statement: "What harm would it do to the country if Dhaka University remains closed from tomorrow? This institution has produced fascists, touts and thugs in Bangladesh. Dhaka University is responsible for the damage to the state."
The remarks sparked widespread criticism on social media and other circles. In response, a programme was held at Dhaka University's Raju Sculpture where shoes were thrown at a caricature of Fuad. Chhatra Dal has also demanded that Fuad publicly apologise.
