Earthquake alert: Gas well drilling suspended for 48hrs
Considering the risk posed by the recent earthquakes, drilling operations in the country’s oil and gas wells have been temporarily suspended for 48 hours. However, gas supply will remain normal during this period.
This directive was issued on Sunday by the Adviser for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Muhammad Faozul Kabir Khan. Petrobangla has confirmed the matter.
Faozul Kabir Khan said the decision had been taken as a precaution due to several earthquakes occurring consecutively, so that ongoing operations at oil and gas wells do not increase the seismic risks further.
A Petrobangla official said that according to the directive, exploration activities will remain halted for 48 hours from today until 8am on 25 November. If another earthquake occurs within this period, further instructions will be issued.
