EC aimed for neutrality in constituency delimitation: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Sunday (August 24) stated that the Election Commission has acted with professionalism and neutrality in the process of delimiting parliamentary constituencies ahead of the upcoming national election.
Speaking at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, ahead of public hearings on submitted claims and objections, the CEC said, “We have tried to work professionally and impartially. As per the law, an opportunity has been provided to file claims and objections, and we are now addressing them through hearings.”
The hearing process began with the constituencies in the Cumilla region and will continue through August 27. All four election commissioners were present, with the session chaired by the CEC and conducted by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
The draft delimitation, released on July 30, proposed changes to several constituencies—adding one seat in Gazipur (increasing to six) and reducing one in Bagerhat (now three).
Following the publication, the commission received a total of 1,760 objections and recommendations by the August 10 deadline.
Once the hearings are complete, the Election Commission will finalise and publish the revised boundaries of the 300 parliamentary seats in an official gazette.
Strict security measures have been implemented at the Election Commission building, and access is being controlled as per regulations.
