EC announces roadmap for 13th parliamentary election

The Election Commission (EC) has announced a comprehensive roadmap for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, aiming to hold voting in the first half of February next year, before Ramadan. The commission plans to announce the official election schedule in early December.

Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed presented the election action plan on Thursday at the EC media center, outlining 24 key steps to ensure a smooth and transparent election process.

Highlights of the roadmap include:

Stakeholder dialogue will begin in late September and continue for about six weeks.

The final voter list will be published on November 30, following the release of the draft on November 1.

Amendments to election laws and regulations are expected to be completed by September 30.

Political party registration will be finalized by September 30.

Constituency boundaries will be gazetted by September 15, with GIS maps published by September 30.

Observer registrations will close by October 22, and certificates issued by November 15.

Election materials, including manuals and posters, will be printed by mid-September.

Training for election officials will run from late August until a few days before voting.

Collection and distribution of election materials will finish by December 31.

The election budget will be finalized by November 15.

Meetings on law enforcement funding are scheduled for mid-November.

Postal voting arrangements for expatriates will be completed by January 2026.

The Chief Advisor has confirmed the election will take place before Ramadan, with a formal letter submitted to the EC. The Chief Election Commissioner said the election schedule will be announced about two months before polling day.
