EC announces schedule for reserved women’s seats election

The Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) has announced the schedule,for the election of reserved women’s seats, set to be held on May 12, in the 13th National Parliament.

The schedule was unveiled at the Election Commission Secretariat in the capital's Agargaon on Wednesday (April 8), by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

He stated that the timetable follows a decision made by the Commission on April 6.

According to the schedule, the deadline for submitting nomination papers is April 21 at the EC Secretariat. The Returning Officer will verify the nominations on April 22–23, while appeals can be submitted on April 26 and will be resolved on April 27–28. The last day for withdrawal of candidacy is April 29, and symbols will be allotted on April 30.

Returning Officer Moinuddin Khan and Assistant Returning Officer Monir Hossain will oversee the election, supported by four polling officers.

On seat allocation, Akhtar Ahmed said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allies will receive 36 seats, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies 13 seats, while one seat is reserved for independents.

He added that Islami Andolan Bangladesh and independent candidate Rumeen Farhana will contest separately, without alliance affiliation.

The EC secretary also provided an update on the Sherpur-3 and Bogura-6 constituencies, where voting is scheduled for Thursday, reporting that the situation is normal and expressing hope that electoral standards will be further strengthened in the national polls.
