EC cancels nomination of Monira Sharmin
The Election Commission (EC) has cancelled the candidacy of Monira Sharmin, joint convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), for a reserved seat for women in the national parliament.
The decision was announced on Thursday afternoon (April 23).
Monira Sharmin’s lawyer, Nazmus Sakib, confirmed the development and said that the candidate still has the option to file an appeal against the EC decision.
Her nomination had earlier been suspended. The EC had directed her to submit necessary proof of resignation from government service by 12:00pm on Thursday.
According to officials, the decision was taken after reviewing compliance requirements related to eligibility for the reserved women’s seat.
