'EC cannot evade responsibility for polls'
Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaullah has asserted that the Election Commission (EC) cannot escape responsibility if the upcoming national parliamentary elections fail to meet standards.
Speaking at a workshop at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon on Friday, Sanaullah stressed that there is no room for flawed elections this time. “Creating an environment conducive to free and fair elections is the duty of the Election Commission. The commission cannot shirk this responsibility,” he said.
Sanaullah added that the training is crucial for the upcoming elections and urged all involved to take the process seriously.
Another Election Commissioner, Anwarul Islam Sarkar, described the forthcoming 13th national parliamentary election as the most challenging in Bangladesh’s history. “We must overcome all obstacles to conduct a credible election; there is no alternative,” he stated.
Sarkar warned that the commission and election officials will be held accountable if the polls are not conducted properly. “There is no way back. Lives may be at stake, but election rigging will not be tolerated,” he added.
