EC grants registration for NCP, 2 more new political parties

The Election Commission (EC) has granted registration to three new political parties, including the National Citizen Party (NCP), Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed on Tuesday (November 4).

"After final review, the commission has decided to register the National Citizen Party (NCP), Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist), and Bangladesh Am Jonogon Party," Akhtar Ahmed said during a briefing at the EC headquarters.

"A public notice will now be issued inviting claims and objections. After resolving those, final registration will be granted," he added.

A total of 143 parties had applied for registration. Following initial scrutiny, the EC sent 22 applications for field investigation.

Based on the reports, the commission earlier decided to register NCP and Bangladesh National League, before finalising the three new parties in its latest decision.
