EC issues show-cause notices to NCP, six other parties over election expenditure accounts
The Election Commission (EC) has issued show-cause notices to the National Citizen Party (NCP) and six other political parties for failing to submit their election expenditure accounts within the stipulated time for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The seven parties are: National Citizen Party (NCP), Bangladesh National Party (BJP), Bangladesh Muslim League (BML), Bangladesh Kalyan Party, Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), Jatiyatabadi Ganatantrik Andolan (NGM) and Amjantader Dal.
EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain told journalists on Thursday, June 25, that separate letters have been sent to the concerned parties.
According to the EC, the parties had fielded candidates in the election. Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), participating parties are required to submit audited expenditure accounts to the commission within 90 days of the election.
EC sources said the parties were first asked to submit their accounts by May 13 through a letter on March 16. A subsequent warning notice was issued on May 19, setting a June 13 deadline. The accounts were not submitted even after the extended deadline.
The EC has now sought explanations from the parties through the show-cause notices.
