The Election Commission (EC) has ordered the urgent repair of non-functional CCTV cameras at polling centres ahead of the upcoming local government elections. District election officers have been instructed to immediately contact the relevant authorities to take necessary measures in this regard.

A letter signed by EC Senior Assistant Secretary Md Rashid Mia was sent to all regional and district election officers on Thursday, September 17.

The letter stated that comprehensive information must be prepared on the CCTV cameras installed at polling centres for the local government elections. The hard copy and a soft copy written in Nikosh font of this information must be sent to the relevant regional election officers by September 24, which will subsequently be sent to the EC's Election Support-3 branch.

The letter further mentioned that if CCTV cameras installed for the 13th national parliamentary election are non-functional, the relevant authorities must be urged through a letter to repair them urgently.

According to the Election Commission's plan, the schedule for the local government elections may be announced this month. Following that, Union Parishad (UP) elections are scheduled to begin in phases from mid-November.
