EC proposes to disqualify fugitives from voting

The Election Commission (EC) has issued more than a dozen reform proposals recommending disqualification of fugitive accused candidates from voting. On Wednesday (September 3), the EC sent these reform proposals to the Ministry of Law to finalize them in the Representation of the People Order (RPO) or the election law.
The reform proposals state that a candidate can use a maximum of 20 billboards during election campaigns. Candidates are not allowed to campaign personally abroad. It has been proposed in the RPO to increase the candidate's deposit from Tk 20,000 to Tk 50,000.
Additionally, the opportunity to submit nomination papers only through a representative will no longer be available. The EC has proposed reforms making the presence of the candidate or proposer mandatory.
