The Election Commission has published a gazette declaring Nusrat Tabassum, joint convener of the National Citizen Party and candidate of the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance, as elected to a reserved women's seat in parliament.

Returning Officer and EC Joint Secretary Md Moyn Uddin Khan told journalists on Tuesday, May 5, that Nusrat Tabassum had submitted nomination papers for election to the reserved women's seat. "We declared her elected unopposed yesterday. The gazette has been published today," he said.

Another candidate from the same alliance, NCP's Monira Sharmin, had her nomination cancelled by the returning officer over government service-related complexities.

On the last day for filing nomination papers on April 21, Nusrat Tabassum submitted her papers 19 minutes after the scheduled deadline, and the returning officer refused to accept them. She then approached the court, which directed the EC to accept her nomination papers and take subsequent action as per law.

Following the court order, the EC accepted her nomination papers, and after scrutiny, declared them valid on May 2.
