EC starts appeals review for disqualified candidates

The Election Commission on Sunday started reviewing the appeals from disqualified candidates seeking to reinstate their candidacy - after their nominations were declared invalid during the scrutiny - for the upcoming national polls.

The hearings started at 10.00 am on Sunday at the Agargaon election commission building in the capital.

The Election Commission starts disposing of the appeals today, which will be completed by December 15, EC Secretary Jahangir Alam said. In all, the EC received 731 appeals – 701 against the returning officers' rejection and 30 against acceptance of the nomination papers.

The commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, will oversee these proceedings. Candidates must participate in these hearings with their legal representatives and the essential documentation for their defence.
