The Election Commission (EC) will begin hearings on objections and suggestions related to the redrawing of parliamentary constituency boundaries from August 24, as part of its preparations for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

According to a gazette notification issued by the EC on Monday, the hearings will take place at the commission’s headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, and continue through August 27.

The process will begin at 12:00 PM on August 24 with hearings on constituencies in the Cumilla region. Objection filers and stakeholders have been requested to appear at the designated date and time with all necessary documents.

The EC had earlier published a draft delimitation list on July 30, proposing changes to ensure population balance across the country’s 300 parliamentary seats.

Key revisions include the reduction of one seat in Bagerhat, bringing its total from four to three, and the addition of one seat in Gazipur, increasing its number from five to six. Minor boundary changes were proposed for 39 other constituencies.

By the deadline of August 10, the commission received 1,760 applications related to 83 constituencies, raising objections or offering suggestions.

Following the hearings, the EC is expected to finalize and publish the revised constituency boundaries ahead of the national election.
