The Election Commission (EC) has approved financial assistance of up to Tk 10 lakh for officials, employees or members of law enforcement agencies if they die while performing election-related duties.

Election officials confirmed the decision on Wednesday (June 10).

According to a policy signed by EC Deputy Secretary Rashedul Islam, the compensation structure includes Tk 10 lakh for families of those who die in accidents or attacks while on election duty, Tk 4 lakh for seriously injured or permanently disabled persons, Tk 2 lakh for critically injured or temporarily disabled individuals, and up to Tk 50,000 for minor injuries.

In cases of sudden illness, critical illness or death while on duty, the policy provides Tk 6 lakh in compensation. Those suffering severe illness or permanent disability will receive Tk 3 lakh, while temporarily ill personnel may receive Tk 50,000.

The policy also states that Tk 3 lakh may be provided for costly hospital treatment and up to Tk 2 lakh for general hospitalisation expenses during duty-related incidents.

Affected individuals or families must submit applications through a designated process. The applications will be reviewed by a committee before final approval by the Commission, which will determine the amount of assistance.

Officials said the move aims to ensure financial security for personnel engaged in critical election duties.
