ECNEC approves 13 projects worth Tk 8,333 crore
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 13 projects at a cost of Tk 8,333 crore.
The approval was given at the ECNEC meeting held on Wednesday (September 17) at the NEC Conference Room in the premises of the Planning Commission. The meeting was chaired by Chief Adviser and ECNEC Chairperson Dr Muhammad Yunus.
The Planning Ministry announced the information in a press release after the meeting. It said that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council approved 13 projects with an expenditure of Tk 8,333.28 crore.
Of the total cost, Tk 4,437.82 crore will come from government funds, Tk 1,225.36 crore from project loans, and Tk 2,670.09 crore from the organisations’ own financing.
It is to be noted that this was the 14th ECNEC meeting of the interim government and the third in the 2025–26 fiscal year.
Among the projects approved in today’s meeting are: the third revision of the women’s empowerment project Tottho Apa under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs; the modernisation of laboratories and infrastructure development project of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology under the Ministry of Education; the purchase of a 2000-horsepower rig, well drilling in Shahbazpur and Bhola, and modernisation of power distribution in the NESCO area under the Ministry of Power and Energy.
In addition, the third revision of the Export Competitiveness for Jobs project under the Ministry of Commerce, the multipurpose cyclone shelter construction (third phase) project in coastal areas under the Ministry of Disaster Management, and the Sheikh Hasina Specialised Jute Textile Mill and Jamuna Specialised Jute and Textile Mill project under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute were also approved.
Three projects under the Ministry of Local Government received approval, notably: Khulna Water Supply Project (Phase 2), land acquisition and development for waste management of Narayanganj City Corporation, and the project for improving the living standards of displaced people from Myanmar and local communities.
In addition, the expansion (first revised) of Sylhet Osmani International Airport under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the construction of multi-storey residential flats for government employees at Mirpur Paikpara under the Ministry of Housing were also approved in today’s meeting.
