Education Adviser Professor Dr. C. R. Abrar has criticized the trend of excess textbooks and test dependence in the country's current education system.

Expressing his disappointment over the burden of extra books on children and young students and the organization of frequent written tests, he said that this is hindering the opportunity for students to develop their overall qualities.

The Education Adviser made the remarks as the chief guest at the award distribution and closing ceremony of the 'National Education Week-2026' organized at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (January 20) afternoon.

Stating that it is time to think anew, Professor C. R. Abrar said, "We are putting the burden of extra textbooks on the shoulders of students and making them face written tests every month. Due to this, the intellectual development of students is being limited to books and tests only."

He further said, now it is time to think anew about this perspective.

Stating that the talent of students is not limited to academic results alone, the education adviser said that the true talent of a person is also developed in various fields such as sports, debate, culture, social work and leadership. Therefore, the purpose of education should be to create a supportive environment for the development of multidimensional qualities.

He further said that education is not limited to books, schools or colleges. The main goal of education is to develop the talent and potential within a person. It is the responsibility of educational institutions to create an environment where educational life is realistic, life-like and joyful.

Abrar said that an environment must be created where students will regret if schools are closed. Along with studies, opportunities to participate in sports, culture and social activities must be ensured. There is a need to transform not just a few, but every school in the country into good schools, so that all students get equal opportunities.

He said that talented students are also emerging from remote and rural areas of the country, which proves that talent is not limited to any specific area. However, the question remains - how correctly are we as a nation able to nurture that talent.
