Education Minister expresses regret in Parliament
Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has expressed regret in Parliament after objections were raised over one of his comments. He expressed this regret while addressing the budget session of the Parliament on Tuesday (July 14) evening.
The Education Minister said, ‘Many people have raised objections to my personal comments. I did not say anything to anyone on purpose. Even then, if anyone has been hurt, I express my regret.’
Earlier, students protested throughout the day over the HSC and equivalent exam schedule, conducting exams in disaster situations, and allegations of errors in the physics question paper. They held demonstrations and blockades on various roads in the capital, demanding three points including the resignation of the Education Minister.
On Tuesday afternoon, the protesting students marched from Science Lab intersection towards the Parliament building. They took position in front of the main gate of the Parliament building around 6 pm. At one point, when they tried to enter the parliament building, the police lathicharged them and removed them.
Later, when the students took a stand in front of the atrium, the police chased them. At that time, there was a scuffle with the police and allegations of pelting bricks were also raised.
Earlier, at around 5 pm, City College examinee Md. Miraj Hossain, on behalf of the students protesting at the Science Lab, raised three demands. Among the demands were - the resignation of the education minister by 6 pm and an apology for his speech, re-organizing the exam held on July 13 amid inclement weather, and postponing the next exam and publishing a new routine.
In addition, the protesters also demanded that the question paper be made student-friendly.
Due to the students' sit-in program throughout the day, traffic movement was disrupted in various areas of the capital, including Science Lab, Uttara, and Mirpur. This caused severe traffic congestion across the city.
