Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said that Bangladesh must strengthen moral values in both family and religious life to build a better society.

“Our value system has deteriorated—whether it is family values or religious values—and we must improve it,” he said. “We have discussed how family and religious values can be improved through policy measures, and we are working on that direction.”

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Secretariat on Wednesday (May 6).

The minister said the government aims to build a value-based, quality education system. “We want to transform the education system into one that is based on ethics and principles,” he said.

He added that it has become necessary to establish the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) from grade eight to twelve and at the undergraduate level nationwide. “BNCC can play an important role in eliminating illiteracy and responding to national disasters. We discussed how to further strengthen this organisation,” he said.

Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, also present at the briefing, said the government envisions an education system built on the concept of “learning with happiness.”

“We want an education system where students learn in a joyful and festive environment while preparing for real-life challenges,” he said. “Our goal is to build a value-based, ethics-driven education system that produces responsible citizens.”

He added that co-curricular activities would be given greater importance in the new approach.

Mahdi Amin also said students would be involved in implementing the government’s development agenda and manifesto-based policies. He noted that organisations such as BNCC, Girl Guides, Scouts, and Rover Scouts would be further strengthened and expanded at the national level.

“The main objective is to integrate these platforms more widely into national activities through effective initiatives under the Prime Minister’s guidance,” he added.
