Eid-e-Miladunnabi on August 26

The moon of the holy month of Rabiul Awwal was not sighted in Bangladesh's sky. As a result, the counting of the holy month of Rabiul Awwal of 1448 Hijri will begin from August 15. Accordingly, the holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH) will be celebrated on August 26.

The decision was made at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Islamic Foundation's Baitul Mukarram conference room on Thursday evening.

The meeting was chaired by Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Munshi Alauddin Al Azad. The meeting reviewed information received from various district administrations, the Islamic Foundation's head office, divisional and district offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARRSO).

According to the National Moon Sighting Committee's decision, the holy month of Safar will complete 30 days tomorrow (Friday, August 14). Then from Saturday (August 15), the counting of the holy month of Rabiul Awwal will begin. According to the 12th day of Rabiul Awwal, the holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH) will be celebrated in the country on Wednesday, August 26.

The meeting was attended by Islamic Foundation Director General Mufti Muhammad Muhiubullahil Baki Nadvi, Chief Information Officer Syed Abdaal Ahmad, Bangladesh Television Director Dr Md Mahbubur Rahman, Bangladesh Meteorological Department Director Md Mominul Islam, SPARRSO Chief Scientific Officer Dr Muhammad Shahidul Islam, and other members of the National Moon Sighting Committee.
