Police have arrested eight leaders of the Jubo League, the banned youth wing of the Awami League, during a secret meeting at Uttarkhan in Dhaka. The arrests were made during a raid in the Taltala area on Saturday night (September 12) based on confidential information that Jubo League leaders and activists were holding a secret meeting there, said the officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttarkhan Police Station. At least 30 other unidentified leaders and activists fled the scene as police arrived, the OC said. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those arrested, while police are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend those who escaped.

রাজধানীর উত্তরখানে অভিযান চালিয়ে আওয়ামী লীগের নিষিদ্ধ ঘোষিত সংগঠন যুবলীগের আট নেতাকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে পুলিশ। এ ব্যাপারে উত্তরখান থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) জানান, গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে শনিবার (১২ সেপ্টেম্বর) রাতে তালতলা এলাকায় একটি বাড়িতে অভিযান চালায় পুলিশ। এ সময় গোপনে বৈঠক করার অভিযোগে যুবলীগের আট নেতাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। ওসি আরও জানান, পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছালে অজ্ঞাতনামা অন্তত ৩০ জন নেতাকর্মী ঘটনাস্থল থেকে পালিয়ে যায়। গ্রেপ্তারকৃতদের বিরুদ্ধে আইনি ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে। এছাড়া ঘটনাস্থল থেকে পালিয়ে যাওয়া অন্যদের শনাক্ত এবং গ্রেপ্তারে অভিযান অব্যাহত রয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে পুলিশ।
