Elected speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed quits party position
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has stepped down from his party post after being elected Speaker of the 13th National Parliament. He has resigned from the standing committee membership of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to maintain impartiality.
The Speaker himself made this announcement while delivering a speech after the prayer break in the parliament session on Thursday (March 12).
He said, I am resigning from the standing committee membership of the BNP for impartiality. Bangladesh first - this should be our motto.
At that time, Parliament Leader and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman welcomed the Speaker's decision. He said, "From today, the Speaker is no longer a party, he is the guardian of the entire parliament. The freedom-loving democratic people of the country are looking forward to this parliament. We want to make this parliament meaningful in the interest of the country and the people.
According to political analysts, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has taken this step to ensure impartiality in carrying out his duties as Speaker.
It is also seemed that it will play an important role in making the activities of parliament more transparent and acceptable.
