Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul said that holding elections is the responsibility of the government, not of any party.

Noting that the government is determined to hold elections, he said: "We are taking all the steps keeping in mind that the elections will be held in February and we will quit in February as well."

He said this in response to a query of journalists at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Stating that the government is determined to arrange the elections, the Law Adviser said that the after the polls, the interim government will leave. "Political parties say different things for different purposes. That is a political process. You have always seen it. Traditionally, these political talks were held in Bangladesh, and they are still being held in the same way. There has not been much qualitative change in the talks. As a result, what will be said during the elections will be seen as part of the political process."

He also said: "We are determined. Our sir (chief adviser) is a universally recognized and respected person on the world stage. He himself announced it. We have no intention of stepping back from his announcement."
