Elections will decide whether the country will go to the hands of liberals or extremists: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has described the upcoming national elections as a ‘tough test’ for the country’s future.
He said that this elections will determine whether Bangladesh will remain in the hands of liberal democracy or will fall into the hands of extremists and anti-state groups.
Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks at a discussion meeting organized at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh auditorium in Kakrail in the capital on Tuesday (January 20).
The discussion meeting was organized to mark the 90th birth anniversary of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.
Mirza Fakhrul said that this election will determine whether the country will remain in the hands of liberal democracy or will remain among all the extremist anti-state people. He described the current electoral environment in the country as a ‘completely planned propaganda’.
He claimed that if the election is held, the BNP will get a 'landslip victory'. He also said that through the election, the people will reach a democratic position, where a new Bangladesh will be formed by solving various problems.
Mirza Fakhrul also said that the BNP has already formulated an outline of state reforms. We first brought forward the reform that many in the government are questioning in 2022. So if you ask us again - are we for it or against it? This is my child. I can die for it.
Mirza Fakhrul alleged that some political forces are deliberately spreading confusion. He said that those who did not recognize Bangladesh in the past and did not believe in independence are misleading people today using religion.
He said that the people must choose a liberal and democratic path. Today's test is difficult, this election will determine whether the country will be in the hands of liberal democracy or among extremist-anti-state people.
Regarding the uncertainty surrounding the election, Mirza Fakhrul said, "There are 23 days left for the election. Now many are saying that there will be no election. Let's see who gets how many votes. If the people accept us, we are there, if they don't, we will be in the opposition."
