Emergency recruitment of 2,701 constables ordered
The government has ordered the urgent recruitment of 2,701 constables in the police force, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said.
He said the recruitment process will begin swiftly to strengthen the law and order situation.
The Home Minister shared this information with journalists after a views-exchange meeting with heads of various departments at the Home Ministry's conference room in the Secretariat on Monday, February 23.
"To my knowledge, over 10,000 arms are yet to be recovered. They will now be considered illegal. Cases may be filed regarding these, and they will be recovered through proper process," the Home Minister said.
He further informed that firearm licences issued during the previous government's tenure will be re-examined.
"We will scrutinise whether the licences were issued through proper process. We will also verify whether those who received licences were actually eligible," Salahuddin said.
"If any firearm licences were issued for political purposes, they will be cancelled. Arms held under such licences will also be cancelled," the Home Minister stated.
He said the government's goal is to run the law enforcement agencies according to public expectations. Necessary manpower increase and strict measures for arms control will be taken to make the police force more effective and people-friendly.
