10 injured as 2 BNP factions clash in Sonargaon

A clash broke out between supporters of former BNP State Minister Rezaul Karim and the president of the local BNP unit, Azharul Islam Mannan, over laying floral wreaths at the Victory Monument in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The incident involved chasing, throwing bricks, and a physical altercation.

The incident took place at around 11:30 AM on Monday (December 16) at the Sonargaon Upazila compound. At least 10 BNP leaders and activists from both sides were injured.

According to the police and eyewitnesses, at 10 AM, Azharul Islam Mannan, the president of the Sonargaon Upazila BNP, along with his supporters, placed flowers at the Victory Monument. Later, at 11 AM, former Minister Professor Rezaul Karim arrived with his supporters to place flowers as well. As Mannan's group was leaving the area, a verbal altercation occurred between them and Rezaul Karim's group. The situation escalated into a clash with brick-throwing and physical violence. During the fight, Mubarak Hossain, Mamun Mia, Rifat Hossain, and Roni from Mannan's group, and Nur E Yasin Nobel, Shahparan, Anwar, and Habibur Rahman from Rezaul's group were injured. Police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.

OC of Sonargaon Police Station, MA Bari, stated that the police arrived at the location and pacified both sides. The situation is currently under police control.
