Around 12,000 people in Sylhet have been cut off electricity due to the ongoing flood situation.

These customers will not get electricity before the flood recedes. On the other hand, if the flood water rises, the number of customers who will be cut off may increase, says a notification from the Power Division on Thursday (June 20).

In the notification, the Power Division expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused by the damage to electricity substations, lines, transformers and electric poles of Power Development Board (PDB) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) in Sylhet zone due to the ongoing rains in in the division and the flash floods coming down from the upstream through the mountains from India.

It is said in the notification that all the areas under the distribution zone are more or less flooded, so the fuse of the transformer has been cut off in many places to prevent electrical accidents and the power supply has been stopped. Apart from this, electricity connection has been shut off to prevent electrical accidents as many houses are submerged in water. Due to all these reasons, about 10,000 to 12,000 consumers in the distribution zone are without electricity. Actions will be taken to restore power supply after the flood water recedes.
