2 senior NBR officials sent on forced retirement
National Board of Revenue (NBR) has sent two income tax officials on forced retirement over allegations of irregularities and corruption.
Abu Sayeed Md Mustaque, an NBR member, and Golam Kabir, a commissioner of the income tax wing, were sent into mandatory retirement on Thursday (April 17).
According to NBR sources, the two officials were reportedly involved in various irregularities while serving at Income Tax Zone-5.
They were reportedly serving in Zone-5 during the much-discussed incident involving Tk721 crore, which was brought into the country from China and falsely declared as remittance to claim tax exemptions and receive remittance certificates.
An NBR source said they were forced into retirement as they had completed 25 years of government service. As per the rules, the government can send any official into retirement after this period.
