4640 jewelry companies doing business without VAT registration: BAJUS

4,640 jewelry companies in 41 districts, including the capital Dhaka, do not have VAT registration. The companies do not pay any VAT to the government. The gold traders' organization Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) has said that bringing these companies under the scope of tax and VAT registration will increase revenue collection.

This information was provided by BAJUS on Sunday (March 23). Earlier, on March 6, the organization sent a letter to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan informing him of this information.

The letter, signed by the organization's General Secretary Badal Chandra Roy, mentioned that there are numerous jewelry companies in different districts of the country without tax and VAT registration.

The letter also stated that earlier, the National Board of Revenue was provided with a list of 2,330 jewelry companies in Dhaka metropolis without tax and VAT registration. This time, in order to collect proper VAT, the government has been provided with a list of 2,310 jewelry companies in 41 districts without tax and VAT registration.

Bajus believes that if these jewelry establishments come under VAT registration, the government's revenue collection will increase significantly.
