5 held over murder of Deepto TV official
Police have arrested five people in connection with the murder of Tanjil Jahan Islam Tamim, a broadcast officer of Deepta TV, due to a dispute over the ownership of a flat in the capital's Rampura.
The family has filed the case against 16 people, including Sheikh Rabiul Alam Robi, a member of the central executive committee of BNP.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Division Ruhul Kabir Khan said this in a press conference at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media center on Friday morning.
He said that the primary involvement of Department of Narcotics Control Deputy Director Mohammad Mamun and BNP leader and also Pleasant Properties Limited MD Sheikh Rabiul Alam Robi has been found. After investigation, they will also be brought under the law.
"As per the agreement, the owner of the land was allotted five flats. But Pleasant Properties Limited had handed over only two. One of the remaining three flats was illegally sold to Narcotics Control Department official Mamun with the help of former additional commissioner of DMP's Detective Branch Harun Or Rashid's father-in-law Solaiman, who also worked at the narcotics control department. They illegally occupied the flat," he added.
The situation escalated when Pleasant Properties' employees began construction work on a flat occupied by the developer company. Sultan and Tamim intervened to stop the work, leading to a violent confrontation, the family members said.
Tamim was severely injured in the attack and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
