58 members of Myanmar Army, BGP take shelter in Bangladesh
At least 58 members of Myanmar Army and BGP have fled into Bangladesh after the conflict with the Arakan Army has intensified.
For the past few days, the conflict between these two sides of Myanmar has been taking place at the border of Bangladesh. Due to the conflict, a group of Myanmar Army or BGP crossed the border and entered Bangladesh in order to save their lives on Sunday morning.
Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has confirmed the authenticity of entry by issuing a press note on Sunday evening.
According to the locals, the conflict has been taking place for several days. They are also terrified by the sound of firings. Many people have left the area and gone to safer places. They also said that the ammunition fired by the two forces of Myanmar is reaching the border of Bangladesh.
On January 28, Bangladesh Border Guard confirmed the arrival of ammunition in Bangladesh and immediately sent a written protest to the Myanmar Army/BGP in a press release.
The Rohingyas living in the Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar are also afraid of the ongoing conflict in Myanmar as Many of their families are still in Arakan. They are also worried about the possibility of going back to their homes.
Shafiqul Islam, UP Member of Ward No. 2 of Ghumdhum Union of Naikhongchhari, said, "Mortar shell-firing on the border has not stopped yet. As a result, nearly 3000 people from two villages have gone to shelter elsewhere. Apart from this, parts of mortar shells and bullets fired by Myanmar have reached the houses of two local people. However, there were no casualties."
Mizanur Rahman, Refugee relief and repatriation officer, said, "Rohingya repatriation has stopped due to the ongoing unrest in Myanmar. Bangladesh has not been able to send any Rohingya back to Myanmar for the past seven years and is also taking care to prevent any kind of disaster from happening there again. RRC officials have also been ordered to be on alert to ensure that no kind of encouragement is done in the Rohingya camp."
On January 30, the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights said in a notification, "More than 554 people have lost their lives since last October due to the clashes between the Arakan Army and the Myanmar Army/BGP."
The organization also claimed that 23 Rohingyas were killed there on January 26.1 and many civilians have been displaced.
