7 colleges’ students threaten to beseize police station, 24-hour ultimatum
Students of seven colleges have given an ultimatum of beseizing the New Market police station in the capital if the government does not fulfil within 24 hours the remaining five demands raised by the seven colleges.
They made this announcement at a press conference organised in front of Dhaka College on Monday (January 27) evening.
The students said one of our six demands has been fulfilled. The Dhaka University authorities have freed us from their affiliation and we welcome that decision. But our remining five demands have not been fulfilled yet.
They said we want to make it clear that we have no dispute with the students of Dhaka University. But if our demands are not accepted within the next 24 hours, we, the students of seven colleges, will unite and beseize the New Market police station. Also, if the university administration does not apologize for the attack on us by the students of Dhaka University, we will not allow DU buses to pass in front of our colleges.
Earlier in the day, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan said, “From now on, the seven affiliated government colleges will remain separate. No new students will be admitted under Dhaka University from the current 2024-25 academic year.
