8 Fire Service units battling to douse fire at Bailey Road restaurant

A fire broke out at a restaurant on Bailey Road in Dhaka this evening.

The incident occurred around 6:45pm on Monday (May 5). Eight units of the Fire Service are currently working to bring the fire under control, according to a message from the Fire Service headquarters.

Sources from the Fire Service control room said that the first unit reached the scene at 6:58pm after receiving the alert. Initially, three units began working to control the fire, and later five more units were dispatched.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and no casualties have been reported so far.

On the night of February 29 last year, a devastating fire at the Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road claimed 46 lives. The fire broke out while people of various ages were having dinner at several restaurants in the building. Most of the victims died from smoke inhalation, as they were unable to escape. Among the deceased were several women and children.

According to the Fire Service, this evening's fire broke out in a restaurant located on the ground floor of the Capital Siraj Centre on Bailey Road. The upper floors of the multi-story building house various commercial establishments.
