9 platoons police deployed at Supreme Court bar
Additional police have been deployed on Thursday on the last day of the two-day elections to the Supreme Court Bar Association (BAR) 2024-25.
In the meantime, nine platoons of police have been stationed around the Supreme Court Bar Association.
More members of the law and order forces are preparing to come to the Supreme Court, said the police officials in charge.
A total of 3,261 lawyers exercised their franchise on the first day of the two-day elections to the Supreme Court Bar Association while total voters are 7,883.
Abdur Rahim, the police officer in charge of security in the Supreme Court area, said on Thursday morning that nine platoons of police have been deployed to maintain peace and order in the election.
More police will be deployed.
Meanwhile, BNP panel secretary candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal sees the deployment of additional police on the last day of the election as an ominous signal.
However, Deputy Attorney General Asaduzzaman Monir, one of the members of the Election Management Committee, said that the police have been deployed for the overall security of the lawyers.
The duty of the police will be to ensure that outsiders enter and do not deteriorate the law and order situation.
Voting for the two-day election of Supreme Court Bar Association 2024-25 began on Wednesday amid much fanfare. Voting started at 10:20am in 50 booths set up in the auditorium of the Supreme Court Bar Bhaban.
Polling continued till 5.20pm with a break of one hour in between. Voting will continue in the same way on Thursday.
