The government has taken the initiative to launch 'Family Card' to strengthen the financial security of marginal and low-income families. A 15-member cabinet committee has been formed for this purpose.
A writ has been filed seeking a direction to declare the July National Charter, prepared during the previous interim government, illegal and inconsistent with the constitution. The writ seeks to suspend the effectiveness of the July National Charter. Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ in public interest in the relevant branch of the High Court on Wednesday (February 18). The Cabinet Secretary, Law Ministry Secretary, National Consensus Commission, Chief Election Commissioner and other relevant parties have been made respondents in the writ.
The first meeting of the new cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has set the government's three primary priorities. The meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon decided to control commodity prices, improve law and order, and maintain normal power and energy supply.
With the formation of the BNP government, the advisory council of the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus has been dissolved.
