Battery-run rickshaw pullers throw pedal rickshaws into Gulshan Lake
Battery-run rickshaw pullers have thrown two pedal-powered rickshaws into the capital's Gulshan Lake. One rickshaw was thrown from Banani Bridge No. 11. Another rickshaw was thrown from the side of the bridge.
The battery-run rickshaw pullers did this around noon on Monday (April 21).
The battery-run rickshaw pullers said that if they cannot drive battery-powered rickshaws, then others (pedal-powered rickshaws) will not be able to drive either. So they threw the two pedal-powered rickshaws into Gulshan Lake.
Eyewitnesses said that the battery-powered rickshaw pullers were protesting by taking a position on the bridge. They were obstructing the movement of pedal-powered rickshaws. At one stage, members of the law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene and removed the battery-powered rickshaw pullers.
Gulshan Zone Assistant Commissioner Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury said that there was a dispute between pedal-driven rickshaw pullers and battery-driven rickshaw pullers in the Banani area this morning. The situation is now under control.
