'Chaingja: Khrang' staged in Bandarban after decade
After a decade, the play 'Chaingja: Khrang' was staged in Bandarban, organized by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s Training Department as part of the First Munir Chowdhury National Drama Festival-2025.
On Saturday evening, February 15, the play was performed at the Bandarban Minority Ethnic Cultural Institute Auditorium, featuring 20 young actors.
'Chaingja: Khrang', meaning "imaginary" in the Marma language, explores the themes of dream and reality through a central character. The play highlights societal issues, including the crisis in education and social degradation, while conveying the message "We are all Bangladeshis," transcending the hill-Bengali divide.
Nasir Uddin, Member of the Bandarban Hill District Council, emphasized the importance of stage plays in creating artists, noting that modern influences have led to their decline in rural areas.
Subir Mahajan, director and planner of the play, shared that the aim was to highlight societal issues in an hour-long performance.
The event was attended by notable figures including theater personalities Milan Bhattacharya, Thoicha Pru Nilu, Domepru Doly, and Aminul Islam Bachchu, General Secretary of the District Shilpakala Academy.
The organizers hope the festival will encourage the growth of theater practice across the country.
