The Bangladesh Chhatra Union Dhaka University Parliament has strongly opposed the reinstatement of Mustafa Asif Arnob, a library assistant at Dhaka University, without facing punishment for his alleged actions against a female student.

The union made its stance clear through a press release issued around 12.00am on Friday (March 6). Office Secretary Ninan Khan signed the press release.

In a joint statement, Meghmallar Bosu, President of the Dhaka University Parliament of the Bangladesh Chhatra Union, and General Secretary Main Ahmed condemned Arnab's behavior, stating, "His actions — insulting a female student and making derogatory comments about her attire — are part of a larger, worrying trend of interference in women's choices and lifestyles under the guise of morality.

The leaders pointed out the disturbing attempts by a group of extremists to defend Arnab after his release on bail, and they warned that his reinstatement would send a dangerous message of impunity. "The way some individuals tried to present him as a national hero is a shameful precedent for Bangladesh," the statement read. "If this oppressor is allowed to return to his position, it will foster insecurity among women throughout the country."

The student union has called for continued protests, emphasizing that individuals who engage in eve-teasing and harassment should not be reinstated to their positions without facing appropriate punishment. They also stressed that any punishment should be accompanied by a process of full rehabilitation.

The controversy surrounding Mustafa Asif Arnab has sparked intense debates across the country, with many voicing concerns about the growing culture of moral policing and its impact on women’s rights.
