Child dies as roof of building collapses on school

A student died when the roof of an under-construction building collapsed on a school at 11:00am on Monday (May 27) in Cumilla city.

The student's name is Saiful Islam Sagar (10). He is the son of Oli Hasan from Shaktala area of the city.

Quoting eyewitnesses, Inspector (Investigation) of Cumilla's Sadar South Police Station Khademul Bahar said that the dead child was a class five student of Nur Ideal School in Choumuhani area of Noagaon.

He said although the construction of a seven-storey building beside the school was completed, there was no security measure for the school. A portion of the roof of the new building suddenly fell on the school during class time. As the roof of the school was tin-shed one, the slab of concrete hit directly on Sagar who was attending the class. He died on spot.

“Due to inclement weather attendance in the class was few, otherwise more students would have been victims,” he said.
