Draft law on artificial intelligence by September: Anisul
A new law regarding artificial intelligence (AI) will be drafted by September, Law Minister Anisul Huq said.
The law minister said: "We think that Bangladesh should formulate a law regarding the way AI is changing the world. This matter should be thought of here as it is being thought of all over the world. That's what we sat today to think about it. Today we made an outline of the law. This issue will not end in such a comprehensive one-day discussion."
The minister said this while talking to journalists after a meeting on AI law at the secretariat on Thursday. State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak was also present in the meeting.
"We need experience and knowledge to make laws," he added. "We have decided today to draft this law and it will be prepared by next September. Today we talked about the outline of what will be in that draft. We will work according to that outline."
He said: "We have discussed the things that should be included in this law, the things that should be protected from the point of view of humanity. That discussion has started and the discussion will continue."
Asked about the outline, the law minister said: "We don't want to disclose that at the moment as it is variable. To observe the matter and gain experience, I took this time to check a little what the law is doing in other places. I believe we can make this law within this period."
Asked about the outcome of this law, Anisul Haque said: "This is also a question for us as we are yet to know how much control we have. This is what I can say - we will try to protect human rights, to protect them in all cases, to use AI for the benefit of people."
